Call Of Duty 2017 Returns To Its Roots – What This Means For Franchise

Call of Duty 2017 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games. The game was first announced two years ago on February 7. This happened in an interview with the chief operating and development officer of Sledgehammer Games, Michael Condrey. Sledgehammer Games produced the game as its second Call of Duty game. The first was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

A Return To Its Roots

Call of Duty 2017 will be a return of the game to its original roots. This is because the developers will reincorporate the traditional combat system in the game. Activision, the game’s publisher, claims so in their fourth quarter 2016 earnings, specifically that the “2017 title will take Call of Duty back to its roots.”

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said that “we’ve never been more excited creatively or commercially about our three-year Call of Duty slate.” This may ultimately mean that jet packs and boots on the ground may make its comeback.

Plans for the Game

Besides reverting the game to its core origins, Sledgehammer Games is also brewing real big plans for the game. In an interview with DualShockers last February 2015, Condrey shared that Sledgehammer Games is “listening closely to what fans want and ideas about how to continue… going forward” with Call of Duty 2017. The developing company may focus on downloadable content.

The developers have also talked about the possibility of creating brand new ways of playing the game. This is despite the fact that Activision has confirmed that the game will go back to its original gameplay. It may do this by “branching story-lines or third [person] mode or crazy changes to the multiplayer,” according to Condrey.

They will also add new characters. It is also not impossible that a female character lead will appear in the next game. “After speaking with military advisors, strong female characters, strong female military presences are gonna be in the future, and we’re seeing it today, so absolutely, you would expect to see that one day in Call of Duty,” said Condrey.

We do hope that Call of Duty 2017 will bring back its original gameplay, all while maintaining a sense of freshness brought into the game. Let us know what your expectations are for the franchise!
