Classic game fans may be alarmed to hear that the Japanese release of Double Dragon 4 PS4 is delayed. Its final release is still unknown. However, perhaps the mystery lies with the reason of its delays.
Double Dragon 4 PS4 is the fourth major title of the classic beat ’em up franchise Double Dragon. The series stars twins Billy and Jimmy Lee as they face against various adversaries. Its popularity even spawned an animated series and a live action adaptation.
The latest installment of the series makes it the 13th game in the franchise. However, Double Dragon 4 PS4 adds characters, enemies and stages for fans to enjoy. But what happened to the delays?
Double Dragon 4 PS4: Delays?
According to Gematsu, developers Arc System Works announced in their website that there are delays in its Japanese release. The supposed launch of the Japanese edition of the PlayStation 4 version of the game has been delayed indefinitely. However, they only mentioned that this was due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Interestingly, it seems the western release of the game appears to be unaffected. The Arc System Works’ news release specifies that the delay is only for the “Japanese edition” of the PlayStation 4 version. The game had a successful Steam version release in Japan today.
According to Kotaku, Arc System Works won the rights of the game back in 2015. They even recruited some of the game’s original developers in order to make the title. This means planner Yoshihisa Kishimoto, composer Kazunaka Yamane and designer Koji Ogata from the original arcade release had a say in the new title.
New features, updates
Meanwhile, the game features a lot of elements from the classic games. Double Dragon 4 adds playable enemy characters for players to try as well. There is even a one-on-one versus mode. Skilled players can try their skills at a survival Tower mode. This pits players against levels upon levels of enemies to see how long they can survive.
The story of the game is set after the events of the preceding games. Protagonists Billy and Jimmy set up Sosetsuken dojos across the United States to preserve the peace against the Gensatsuken technique. However, a trip through the desert en route to the West Coast dojo turns awry as they are attacked by a new group.
The trailer teases this to be the start of their “new journey.” Unfortunately, it is still unknown if this marks the release of a new line of Double Dragon games. However, this can ignite enough nostalgia fuel for Double Dragon fans.
Fans of the franchise can buy it for $6.99 for the Steam and PlayStation 4.
