Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind Gets New PvP Mode – How It Works

Bethesda is taking new steps to improve The Elder Scrolls Online and its player versus player (PvP) system. New screenshots from the game appear to showcase the update’s new PvP mechanics. However, fans may ask if this is a step towards the right direction.

The Elder Scrolls Online is the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) version of Bethesda’s hit Elder Scrolls franchise. This allows players to traverse the world of Tamriel together. Interestingly, it has its own story separate from the core titles.

Players can see much of Bethesda’s classic Elder Scrolls treatment with the game. The Elder Scrolls Online allows gamers to choose between the series’ various races and four set classes. These race-class mixes afford fans with a wide range of attacks, effects and spells.

Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind’s New PvP System

The new PvP system will arrive alongside the game’s Morrowind expansion this June. According to Game Rant, PvP in the title takes place in the Battlegrounds. This allows players to fight as three teams of four.

Interestingly, all fights can take place in a myriad of landscapes. One particular area of interest is in Vvardenfell Island’s Ashland region. This is the lush environment the original Morrowind game was set.

There are four screenshots which elaborate much of what players should expect from the new PvP feature. Game Rant and other news sites posted these images, however, no original source was indicated. However, if players are to assess the snippets, the Battlegrounds appear to have a central “arena” where gamers have to face off each other.

According to the game’s official website, the PvP option has three different gaming modes. Team Deathmatch simply tasks players with fighting the opposing team to the death. Capture the Flag is the traditional “attack-defense” system where teams have to capture the flag of the enemy and defend their own banner.

Domination is Bethesda’s rendition of the “capture-and-hold” gameplay. This forces teams to capture and defend certain positions on the map for as long as they could. Each game mode provides their own set of points and rewards.

New Features, Updates

Morrowind is, in fact, the game’s seventh update. Each of the online title’s updates come in the form of downloadable content (DLC) packs or expansions. However, while each individual DLC or expansion is different, a common element is that they introduce new areas and re-introduce classic Elder Scrolls “tropes.”

For instance, the Thieves Guild DLC allows players to join the series’ iconic Thieves’ Guild. Players will have to investigate the mysterious Abah’s Landing in Hammerfell to unveil the curtain behind the mysterious organization. Additionally, the Dark Brotherhood expansion allows players to be part of the enigmatic Dark Brotherhood, which is a clandestine organization that specializes in assassinations.

Players who were fans Bethesda’s Morrowind game can look forward to the new update. The June expansion will introduce the continent of Morrowind in the main online game. It can be remembered that each core Elder Scrolls title takes place in a region in the in-game “planet.”

Morrowind is the second region to be introduced, after Daggerfall in the first two games. This is the region introduced right before Cyrodil in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The latest game in the franchise takes place in Skyrim in the Elder Scrolls title with the same name.

Players can experience Tamriel online by getting the game for the PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, Elder Scrolls fans can traverse Morrowind in the game on June 6, 2017.
