Final Fantasy 14 Might Be Released For The Nintendo Switch – Here’s Why

Looking into buying the Nintendo Switch? It seems Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 might be in it. Producer Naoki Yoshida discussed the details in a recent interview.

Final Fantasy 14 For The Nintendo Switch

The Switch is one of the hottest consoles that players have been waiting for ever since its announcement. It has been announced that the console will have full third-party support. However, there are a lot of publishers that are not looking into releasing their upcoming titles on Nintendo’s new system. The reveal is still quite early, with a lot of companies who are still looking into developing Switch-compliant games. One of them is Square Enix, which might bring a number of its games to the console. Players are keeping their fingers crossed that the studio will include Final Fantasy 14 in the Switch lineup.

Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida shared that a Switch version of Final Fantasy 14 might happen. However, Yoshida stressed that the console should allow cross-play between their console and other platforms such as the PC and PS4. The producer does not want their players to be divided, which is why he stressed the importance of the feature. “The main limitation [is] that they absolutely don’t want to create a boxed off version of the game that can’t interact with the others. If that could be overcome then they’d be very interested in discussing a Switch port.”

No Cross-play, No Switch

It has been known that FF 14 needs a large community to thrive. Dividing the community could pose a problem for the developer since the title is already on the PC and PS4.

There is a possibility that cross-play is already up for grabs in Nintendo’s new console. There are still a lot of features that are not yet known for the Nintendo Switch, except that it will have the Virtual Console. The only drawback is that the Virtual Console asks for a subscription fee to users who are interested. Everything else is still a secret so far.

If FF 14 doesn’t happen for the Switch, owners can look forward to another Square Enix massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) called Dragon Quest 10Excited to see FF 14 for the Switch?
