Square Enix plans on making a Final Fantasy 7 Remake which would contain huge improvements in the game. However, game director Tetsuya Nomura confirms that the game’s universe will stay the same even if several things will change. Cloud Strife and Sephiroth remain as the main protagonist and antagonist respectively in the remake of Final Fantasy 7 (FF7).
According to WWG, Square Enix started the development of the FF7 Remake in 2016, building up to its upcoming release. However, publishers remain quiet as to the details of its progress, other than that it would contain “a lot of changes.”
Aside from Nomura’s comment with the upcoming changes, he further mentioned that mystery still surrounds the FF7 Remake. Square Enix might have delayed the development of its other games because of its recently released Final Fantasy 15.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Include New Features
According to GameZone, Square Enix will release the FF7 Remake in an undisclosed number of parts with some parts including Final Fantasy 13. Developers are currently undergoing a trial and error phase for the game and they even confirmed the character customization feature.
They have confirmed in reports that players can customize Cloud to cross-dress as a female character. Meanwhile, sad news also enveloped the game when Nomura mentioned that the Final Fantasy 7 HD Collection might not push through.
Nomura mentioned that the FF7 Remake might not include the HD Collection since the two show no connection with each other. In a previous interview with Finaland, he mentioned that lack of continuity would hinder them from releasing the two altogether.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: History of its Success
Square Enix first released the original Final Fantasy 7 in 1997 where it became one of the most successful games of the series. It became so popular that developers decided to release mini-franchises of the game.
Developers came up with several spin-offs of Final Fantasy 7 which they released on different platforms. The game titles include Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, Dirge of Cerberus, and Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2, and mobile devices, respectively.
Final Fantasy 7 would feature the story of Cloud who joined an eco-terrorist group to go against the Shinra Corporation. It will involve the story of the conflict between him and Sephiroth who’s a former experiment by the Shinra Corporation. The two would have an epic battle which became one of the iconic scenes in the Final Fantasy series.
