Aquaman has just entered the world of video games. Actor Jason Momoa has signed on to star in the film adaptation of the Square Enix video game, Just Cause. Momoa, who is known for his role on Game of Thrones, is set to appear in the blockbuster Justice League, and is signed on to star in the movie adaptation of the aforementioned video game.
The Game of Thrones cast member will be working with director Brad Peyton and writer John Cellee. This film marks the second time the director-actor pair will work together, the first project being Netflix’s Frontier.
The role is a far cry from his Game of Thrones character; Momoa will play the role of Rico Rodriguez – an operative for an organization called The Agency, reports Deadline. Unfortunately, not much has been revealed about the film’s plot. However, it is expected that the film will somehow showcase Rico’s crisis of conscience during a tactical mission.
No other cast members for the Just Cause movie have been announced. Likewise, the project has not revealed a specific release date.
Just Cause Video Game
The original Just Cause game was published by Eidos Interactive in 2006. The game is explosive, filled with chaotic action and should translate well into a Hollywood film if done correctly, recalled Polygon.
Furthermore, the franchise is an action-adventure video game series with three games: Just Cause, Just Cause 2, and Just Cause 3. The open-world games typically take place in tropical environments. The most recent release of the franchise was Just Cause 3, which hit the shelves back in 2015. It is available on multiple platforms including the PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
Likewise, players can move about in a large, open environment with the ability to control weapons and operate a variety of vehicles. Side missions are available, with options ranging from races to running a drug cartel.
Just Cause 4 – What We Know
Back in 2015, Game Spot reported that producer Adrian Askarieh teased the movie was nearing development. It was confirmed that the sequel would be heavily inspired by the third installment. “Just Cause 3 has a terrific story,” Askarieh detailed at the time.
“It has Rico going back to Medici, the place of his birth and then subsequent displacement, and the murder of his family. And he goes back there to do what he does best which is to discombobulate regimes.” Also, he likened the game’s action sequences to that of The Fast and Furious. “They’re both outlandish,” he explained.
Lastly, Momoa has a number of upcoming projects. His next film Once Upon a Time in Venice, is an action comedy that co-stars Bruce Willis and John Goodman. He is also linked to the Justice League film along with an Aquaman solo feature.
