Weeks after the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, it had already sold at least 2.6 million units across the globe. Those who bought the game will be glad to know that Sony is already planning an expansion for the game.
The figures announced by Sony include both the physical copies and digital copies bought by consumers through the PlayStation Store. Sony said that Horizon Zero Dawn is the best-selling new IP for the PlayStation 4.
It marked the biggest debut of Guerilla Games, the developers of Horizon Zero Dawn, in video game history. They also made the Killzone series but their latest one had beaten that by a large margin.
One of the Biggest Game Debut in History
Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studio Boss Shawn Layden told GameSpot that they knew that game is special. Seeing the game have many incredible critical reactions translating into these number of sales is gratifying for them.
Based on the numerous photo sharing and comments in social media, the game made a huge impact towards all consumers. Even after hours and hours of gameplay, fans had nothing to say but good words for the game.
Guerilla Games Managing Director Hermen Hulst also said that they are thrilled that critics and players embraced their game. They made the game out of a labor of love so it is satisfying to see their hard work pay off.
No Details About Story Expansion Yet
This is when Hulst mentioned that they are already working on a story expansion for the game. However, they refused to release further details about the planned update.
It seems that he wants to hype the fans more before they decide to share more about the story expansion. For what it is worth, the next update might contain more weapons and enemies that players will encounter.
Furthermore, it will make the gameplay longer that it is now. Most players who own the game since day one probably finished it by now. The next update will add more gameplay time to those who fell in love with the game.
The game will surely mark its spot, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, For Honor, NieR: Automata, and others more, as one of the games that made a huge debut. For Honor even managed to exceed the sales of this game during its first two weeks.
Sony Interactive Entertainment released the game on Feb. 28, 2017, for the PlayStation 4 in the US. Meanwhile, those in Europe only received the game on March 1, 2017.
