Many people argue that How I Met Your Mother was the closest friendship comedy series ever to come close to the success of worldwide hit TV series Friends. That is also why a How I Met Your Mother spinoff series is one of the top shows on people’s wishlist.
How I Met Your Dad
When How I Met Your Mother series ended its run in 2014, a pilot episode of the trial spinoff series How I Met Your Dad was released. It offered the female’s perspective of the original series and featured Greta Gerwig in the lead role. Veteran actress Meg Ryan served as the narrator.
Unfortunately, the first How I Met Your Mother spinoff, or rather the pilot episode, was never picked up as reported by Gamespot. It did not receive the ratings and hype it was hoping for. It was created by original creator Carter Bays and Craig Thomas in collaboration with Saturday Night Live’s Emily Spivey.
How I Met Your Father
After two years since the end of How I Met Your Mother and the fiasco of its first spinoff, a second spinoff in currently in development. Like the pilot episode in 2014, it will also offer a female’s perspective of how she met her partner.
Creators Bays and Thomas are on board as executive producers with Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. Bays and Thomas, however, will not be directly involved with the How I Met Your Mother spinoff due to his overall deal with competing studio Sony Television. How I Met Your Father is in the works under 20th TV.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the spinoff series will be written by This Is Us writers Aptaker and Berger. No further details are known yet other than it will feature a new set of characters.
