NetherRealm Studios released a teaser confirming the arrival of Injustice 2 to mobile platforms. Fans of DC Entertainment and NetherRealm’s popular gritty franchises can get the same experience on iOS and Android. Mortals can finally battle gods on their phones.
Injustice 2 marks the second game in the darker Injustice line of fighting games. This is a radical change to the heroics seen in the DC Comics Universe. Much to the amusement of fans, this offered a new avenue for them to explore the limitations of their heroes.
This, in turn, led to an entirely new storyline for Injustice 2. The story is set in an alternate reality where the death of Lois Lane by the hands of the Joker has sent Superman on a warpath. Now he wants to enforce peace around the world – with heroes taking his side, and heroes going against him.
Injustice 2: Mobile Features, Platforms
The good news came courtesy of Ed Boon, creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat. He showcased a new image via his Twitter, teasing a brand new app for the game. Fans can view the aforementioned tweet below.

There is no news date available for the app, however. Interestingly, the screenshot appears to be of a finished product. This means an actual app may be coming soon after all.
However, it is important to take note that the console version of the game has a May release. This means the app may more or less launch with the console game or a few weeks after that. Regardless, there’s a chance NetherRealm is holding off its launch for the sake of a good release.
This is a good point, seeing the same strategy was applied to Mortal Kombat X last 2015. Its iOS version launched almost a week after the game’s official release for the Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4. Its Android version came a little later after that. The odds are high that the mobile version of the Injustice sequel may have the same treatment.
More Characters, Updates
The news came a day just after an official trailer was revealed for the iOS and Android. According to Game Rant, the footage showed multiple characters that may be coming to the game. This includes Cyborg, one of the original members of the new Justice League in DC Comics, and Batman villain Scarecrow.
Unfortunately, not much about the app itself is known. The tweet only specified that there’s an “all-new combat” system available. This is intriguing, as most fighting games in mobile appear with a similar and basic approach. Players move characters with a joystick, and basic attacks are at their disposal.
However, one can only speculate with the game’s “new combat.” This can range from turn-based combat with similar controls, or even a card game. What’s more interesting is that there’s still no idea what kind of character will be teased in the coming weeks.
Regardless, curious fans will be glad to know that the game releases on May 16, 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
