Injustice 2 Gameplay
Injustice 2 retained a lot of its gameplay mechanics from Injustice: Gods Among Us. This includes environment interaction, stage transitions, clashes, and character traits. Even more, the trait system provides a temporary streak or ability, which compliments each character’s skill.
Meanwhile, the super meter allows players to execute enhanced special moves. In addition, it unlocks powerful “super moves” when fully charged. Gamers can now perform an evasive roll maneuver or escape an enemy’s combo early in the game.
What’s new in Injustice 2 is it introduces a loot-dropping system. Known as the “Gear System,” it offers character-specific costume pieces and equipment that has a status-altering effect. NetherRealm Studios mentioned that the Gear System uses role playing game (RPG) mechanics to give points to players after every match. Each loot drop allows players to customize the look of their characters and strengthen their abilities. This includes increasing their strength, speed, defense, health, or unlocking new moves.
Next, players can swap various costume pieces, such as gloves, chest armor, greaves, shields and capes. It allows them to choose from over 1,000 options each category. The characters will have five gear slots built to equip different costume pieces. There will be two ability slots for equipping new special moves, super moves, or character traits. Lastly, there is also one shader slot to change the color scheme of their gear. The game will include five separate gear loadouts for players, which allow them to switch between their setups at the beginning of every match.
In the meantime, online multiplayer will feature matchmaking options that separate players who wish to fight geared or non-geared characters. This is to provide balanced gameplay for competitive matches. Moreover, the online infrastructure will utilize the Good Game Peace Out (GGPO) netcode. The GGPO netcode was used in NetherRealm’s previous title, Mortal Kombat X.
Injustice 2 launches on May 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Stay tuned to Video Games Republic to catch the latest on video games, tech, and more.
