The sports industry lost a talented person today. Former NFL and USC player Joe McKnight was shot and confirmed dead on Thursday due to a road rage altercation. Police confirmed his passing but Joe McKnight cause of death is still under investigation.

Jefferson Parish colonel, John Fortunato, confirmed that former NFL running back Joe McKnight was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a report by USA TODAY, the incident happened at approximately 2:43 PM at the intersection of Behrman Highway and Holmes Boulevard in Terrytown, La.
Mcknight, who was 28 years old, had a run in with suspect Ronald Gasser, 54 years old, at the said location. Joe McKnight cause of death is suspected as a possible road rage incident after the former NFL player “exited his vehicle and subsequently was shot multiple times.”

According to a report by NBC News, McKnight was a highly recruited football star from New Orleans when he graduated from high school in 2007. He then enrolled at the University of Southern California and joined the school football team, Trojans. The team won 11 of their 13 games that season. USC defeated Illinois 49-17 during the Rose Bowl where McKnight ran for 125 yards on only 10 carries.
However, most of his college career was plagued with injuries and investigations of questionable gifts. He was then banned from playing in the 2009 Emerald Bowl but then soon after, McKnight went pro.
Joe McKnight was a fourth-round pick of the New York Jets in the 2010 draft. He was named to the Pro Football Writers’ Association’s All-Pro team in 2011 as a kick returner. Other than New York Jets, Mcknight also played for the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught two touchdown in 2014 with the Chiefs. It was his last year with NFL.
Joe McKnight made an impressive comeback this year playing in the Canadian Football League. He rushed for 354 yards in seven games in the match Edmonton Eskimos vs. Saskatchewan Rough Riders.
