Fans of a classic Mass Effect feature will be finding themselves in a tricky situation with the release of Mass Effect Andromeda. Some developers working on the game have revealed the situation of cross-play between PC and console devices. Recent developments have finally shed light to this particular question.
Fans can remember that the hit role-playing game (RPG) features what is called the cross-play system. This allows players to resume their progress as the same set of characters regardless of the consoles they have. The feature has been critically-acclaimed, as it allows players to switch devices and almost play on-the-go, depending on the devices in the vicinity. This may be the reason why a lot of fans are looking forward to the feature in Mass Effect Andromeda.
With the impending release of Mass Effect Andromeda in a few months, fans are eagerly waiting for a response about the matter. It seems developers from BioWare have finally shed light on the issue. Sadly, the answer is a no: there will be no cross-play feature for the game.
Mass Effect Andromeda: No Cross-Play?
The news came courtesy of a set of tweets from a number of BioWare’s developers. They elaborated more on the nature of cross-play on the multiplayer aspect of the game. BioWare lead designer Ian Frazier and producer Fernando Melo clarified that the game will not have cross-play features in any form.

According to Game Rant, the absence of the cross-play feature should not be a big surprise to fans and other players. After all, the system of cross-playing between consoles and the PC is still very young, with a lot of features to cover. This is why some games in the Mass Effect trilogy had only some of the developers willing to implement such a system in their devices.
It has been speculated that the feature will eventually arrive in games and consoles. After all, Xbox and Windows are now allowing cross-playing in some of their games such as Gears of War 4. However, Microsoft and Sony does not support this feature yet.
This means the online “ecosystems” of the two are still very much separate. Microsoft appears open for the feature to be supported, however Sony has kept mum on the issue. Regardless, it may only be a matter of time before players can see cross-play in future games.
Additionally, Melo also revealed that the new Mass Effect game will be using peer-to-peer networking for its multiplayer. Games such as Gears of War 4, Star Wars: Battlefront and Call of Duty use dedicated servers to support their multiplayer. However, games such as Destiny also use peer-to-peer.
A lot of players may be disappointed by the lack of cross-play and dedicated servers in the game. However, information collected by DualShockers revealed that the PC version of the game will have an unlocked frame rate. This means players are allowed to send frame rates skyrocketing past 30 frames per second (FPS) assuming their rigs can handle the fast-paced system of the game.
The new Mass Effect game will be launching on March 21, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
