The gaming community is one of the main beneficiaries of technological advancement. Over the past couple of decades, people saw how games and consoles changed into smaller, sleeker and faster items. And now before the year ends, MSI VR One takes it another notch up.
MSI portable virtual reality machine
MSI VR One made its debut May of this year during the COMPUTEXT TAIWAN 2016. Since then, people have been seeing glimpses of the much awaited VR backpack. It was most recently seen during Tokyo Game Show event in September.
MSI claims that it is the lightest futuristic VR Backpack to be made available this year. It weights at 3.6kg nett and measures at 54mm thin. It uses two battery packs that lasts for 90 minutes of full speed gameplay. According to a report by PC Gamer, MSI said that the VR One is even lighter than some high performance gaming notebooks when both batteries are removed.
Both batteries are to power NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 GPU and Intel 6th Generation Core systems. With these two are gaming notebook hardware, SSD and 8GB RAM to make the VR gaming experience hyper-immersive and smooth. According to a report by IGN, MSI’s new VR backpack also ensures a relatively quiet environment as it uses 9cm Ultra-Blade Fans and nine heat pipes, emitting less than 40dBA.

MSI VR One comes with one mini DisplayPort, four USB 3.0 ports, one USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3, a HDMI 2.0 port, Killer 1535 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity and a separate headphone and microphone jacks.
The new VR One by MSI is ideally to be used with Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets. When headsets are removed, the unit can be used as a regular desktop. MSI shared that it is running “a surround mode on three external 4K@60Hz monitor.”
MSI VR One is available in two variants having two price tags: GTX1060 with 6GB GDDR5 pre-orders at $2,000 while GTX1070 with 8GB GDDR5 is at $2,300.
The price is a bit steep but considering the hardware and features the unit has, it will be a well-spent dollar. Start 2017 with your own portable VR machine!
