NBA Trade Rumors
In Basketball Reference, last season, Noel played in 67 games in 62 starts. He averaged 29.3 minutes, 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. Noel is just 22 and with these scores, he has a promising NBA career ahead of him.
What Team Will Noel Be Joining?
After expressing his upset reactions with the limited playing time, NBA trade rumors surfaced and linked him to teams such as the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks.
In a report by Fan Rag Sports Network, Noel can join the Boston Celtics. They are always involved in trades given their assets and team president Danny Ainge’s aggressive nature. Boston could use help in the frontcourt, and Noel’s length and athleticism would play well with the team’s stable of athletic defenders. So could Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors get some help.
The Dallas Mavericks need to improve their base of young talent, and Noel would be a natural replacement in the middle for Andrew Bogut when he moves on through trade or free agency. Getting Noel would not save Dallas this season, but it could set them up nicely for the future.
But the most logical destination for Noel is the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers’ results this year have not been good and are last in the NBA with a defensive rating of 110.4 based on NBA.com. A top-notch rim protector like Noel could help in this team. More so when there is a good chance Festus Ezeli quits the team because of his knee surgery.
Noel may not be able to cover all of Portland’s poor perimeter defense but he would be an improvement in the middle and can provide Damian Lillard with a rim-running pick-and-roll option offensively. But at this point, the Blazers may not be willing to give up that much to welcome Noel.
With this, it becomes highly unlikely that the Nerlens Noel trade rumors will lead to a done deal anytime soon. But they need to make a deal soon for both the 76ers’ sake and Noel’s.
