New Assassin’s Creed Game To Be Set In Greece, Screenshots Leaked

Ubisoft’s highly-acclaimed stealth franchise may be returning with a big twist. If rumors are true, then Assassin’s Creed will be in Greece. This will be a bold move for the franchise.

Fans across the internet are starting to research about updates on a new Assassin’s Creed game. This was after an anonymous source posted a screenshot of what appears to be a new entry in the franchise. Even if the game is still unconfirmed, players are getting excited with this new rumor.

This makes the rumored Assassin’s Creed game the upcoming title in the series after Syndicate in 2015. It will also radically change the timeline progression of the franchise. Syndicate stars twins Jacob and Evie Frye in Victorian England. The two will try to outwit the Templars through a crime syndicate.

Assassin’s Creed: Empire – Is It The New Game?

The screenshot, as seen below, was supposedly from a Reddit thread. Game Rant saved a copy of the image, now viewable on its website. Unfortunately, the Reddit user who uploaded the image has deleted his account and the image along with it.

If the rumors are true, then the image itself opens a lot of questions about the game. The features of the character indicate a protagonist from Greece. The protagonist’s clothing indicates he is a warrior, though the image does not reveal much about his actual ethnicity. Players may speculate that this is Ubisoft introducing a “character creation” option.

The character is facing an old entrance to a temple of sorts, which indicates a setting in Greece or Egypt. If it is the latter, then this screenshot may be the front of the famed Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt. Of course, all of these should be taken as mere speculation.

Unfortunately, the image itself appears suspicious. The Reddit poster did not include a source with his or her post. Game Rant added players may even ignore this screenshot if it weren’t for previous rumors in the first place.

Updates, Release?

In fact, the potential Egypt setting has been around the internet for the past three years. Game director Ashraf Ismael expressed a desire to bring the game to Egypt since 2014, but not much was revealed after that. Sources gathered on NeoGAF indicates that the possibility of an Egyptian setting is strong but unconfirmed.

The rumors were strengthened after Ubisoft took a break from the franchise last year. This might be because they also focused on new titles such as For Honor and The Division. However, fans believe this also means a new Creed game may be on the way.

If the rumors are true, then some speculation may be formed about the game’s plot. A time as ancient as the Egyptians means the next game may be set well before any of the titles. This can even explain how the Templars and the Assassins were formed in the first place.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft will be the only one confirming the rumored game’s existence and release. Fans can still play Syndicate on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Players can check out how the Order of Assassin’s fit in the industrialized city complex of London below:
