Nintendo Classic Mini NES release date, games, pre-orders, price and features: Nintendo promises more consoles to come before the holidays

Retro gamers are in for a surprise as the widely popular Nintendo Classic Mini NES is getting more shipments although stocks will be extremely limited and will be sold through online pre-orders.

Since news of the new Nintendo classic console became available on the market last November 11, it has been a hot commodity as it will make a perfect gift in time for the Christmas season.

As Nintendo itself puts it: “The classic NES is back in a familiar-yet-new form as a mini replica of Nintendo’s original home console. Relive past glories, defeat the boss that you could never beat, or simply enjoy the classic titles of yesteryear anew.”

While the retro console flew off of shelves both physical and virtual on the Amazon recently, Nintendo is promising for more stocks before the holidays based on the company’s latest tweets.

The company said, via Forbes: “The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year.” So, expect more consoles to come soon.

Macworld reports that the retro console will cost $60 and an extra $10 for the controller while in the UK, the new NES costs £49 and a second controller costing £7.99. Technically, it is now on sale but since it is already sold-out, placing pre-order on these sites might help:

Nintendo Classic Mini NES Features and Specs

The Nintendo console will feature different display modes such as ‘pixel perfect’ which will give a 4:3 aspect ratio but in the resolution of a modern display, according to Julie Gagnon, a communications manager at Nintendo of Canada in an interview on a French-language radio show.

She also said that all of the 30 games will have instant temporary saves and permanent save points so players won’t have to worry about starting at the beginning each time the NES reboots. It will also feature modern specs like HDMI and will be powered with a USB cable, although the AC adapter will not be included in the box.

There is only one Nintendo Classic Mini: NES controller in the box, which has the same style and shape of the original NES controller and two players can be made by using a Classic Controller Pro or a Wii Classic Controller.

Another feature of the new Nintendo controller is that it can be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii or Wii U console by plugging it at the bottom of the Wii remote.
