Nintendo has just announced all the information and details on the newest gaming console, the Nintendo Switch. This happened during its presentation last January 13. All the rumors will now either be debunked or affirmed.
Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch will be launching this March 3 for $299. The package includes the Switch Pro Controller itself, the Switch dock, the Joy-Con grip, two Joy-Con straps, an AC adapter and an HDMI connector. However, the Joy-Con — which offers two options, one in red and blue multi-colors and the other in plain gray — are sold separately. The two Joy-Cons costs $69.99. A second set of Joy-Cons is worth $79.99. Each Joy-Con is worth $49.99.
The console of the Nintendo Switch is small and the Joy-Cons are about 4 inches in length. The screen of the device is 6.2-inches and features a 720p display. It has a touch panel as well. If you want to connect your Switch to the TV, the Dock is the way to go. With the Pro Controller or Joy-Con, you can play with the use of the TV, just like playing in a normal set-top console. When you are done playing on the TV, you can unplug the Switch from the Dock to play out of it. In an on-the-go mode, you can play up to eight consoles locally via wifi on a multi-player mode.
Each Joy-Con has a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, and two small L and R shoulder buttons. The left Joy-Con has a “capture” button to take screenshots and videos. The right Joy-Con has an Augmented Reality camera which tells your hand’s distance from the device and has a NFC reader or writer to read Amiibo data. Both Joy-Con vibrates when you play. The Joy-Con can be attached to a Strap which slides over the long end and adds a wrist-strap and more prominent L and R buttons. You can also add a Joy-Con Grip in the middle to form one single controller with a similar number of thumbsticks and buttons as in a Nintendo Pro Controller.
Nintendo says that the console can last up to 6 hours of battery life. But this will depend on the software and use of the device. The handheld Switch can be charged while playing using the AC adapter by attaching it into a USB-C plug on the device. The Nintendo Switch has a storage capacity of 32GB which can be expanded with microSDXC cards.
There will be an online service to be launched for free for the swift implementation of the newest console. It will only run free until fall of this year. Alongside this free online service is a one-month free Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Nintendo game with added online features. The Switch does not have software region locking unlike old Nintendo consoles. The device will neither feature the 3DS StreetPass system nor the Nintendo Miiverse.
The network will have a smart-device integration as well. This will be available in the summer of this year. Its main function is to allow users to invite friends to play with them online. Players can also set game meetings and chat with one another as they play.
