Nokia Viki: Company Trademarks AI Assistant – What To Expect

The Nokia Viki or an AI assistant is now a pending trademark filed by the company. Nokia is reportedly planning to create its own assistant on the lines of other rivals. News has emerged of an EU trademark filed by the company.

The Nokia Viki is clearly hinted at in this trademark. This clearly confirms that Nokia Solutions and Networks has filed for an AI assistant. However, HMD is not involved in this initiative.

The trademark description clearly highlights “software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web digital assistants”. It also talked of these assistants “working with knowledge and combining all data sources”. This would then lead to a “single chat and voice based interface”.

More Information on the Viki

GSM Arena reports that the Nokia Viki will be the latest AI assistant in the market. Her was a movie which depicted a future with tons of AI assistants. The movie’s predictions have now successfully come true.

Nokia’s first ever Android phone will release soon. Viki may give the Nokia 6 a miss as per sources. Viki may also be a major software update.

It may also be available for non Android phones from Nokia. Microsoft has Cortana while Apple has Siri. Samsung has now purchased Bixby.

Is it all True?

TNW reports that the trademark document does have an intriguing error. The word assistant has been misspelled as “assisstant”. However, this does not indicate that the filing is fake.

HMD has already announced the Nokia 6 smartphone. This will be available later in 2017 and should be priced at around $250. Even Huawei integrated the Alexa assistant to the Mate 9 lately. This just goes to show how popular such assistants are.

Virtual assistants are steadily becoming the norm in the industry. Nokia will definitely be able to reach out to a wider and bigger market. The Viki may be key to the company’s eventual revival.
