The latest Novak Djokovic news reveals that the star tennis player has split with Boris Becker, his coach. This reportedly comes after Djokovic did not perform up to expectations this year.
The Novak Djokovic tally includes his very first French Open victory in tandem with a 6th Australian Open romp. However, he could not achieve a calendar grand slam, losing at both Wimbledon and the US Open.
The Novak Djokovic rankings went down to number two. Andy Murray finally took the top spot this year. Djokovic earlier had a lead of more than 8, 000 points over Andy Murray and stayed at number 1 for a whopping 122 weeks!
Why the Split Happened
ABC News reports that his below par performance this year has made Djokovic split from his coach Boris Becker. Djokovic won 6 out of his 12 big titles after getting Becker on board three years earlier.
He has not performed well over the last six months or so. Djokovic has now stated that “after three very successful years, Boris Becker and I have jointly decided to end our cooperation”. He also added that “the goals we set when we started working together have been completely fulfilled”.
He also wished to “thank him for the cooperation, teamwork, dedication and commitment”. The duo first joined forces in the year 2013. News of the split has also been confirmed by Sky Sports. Djokovic lost in the US Open final to Stan Wawrinka.
Which Aspects Rankled Djokovic the Most?
He also lost in the Wimbledon third round to Sam Querrey. He even lost in the Olympics’ first round to Juan Martin del Potro. Without a single title, Murray found it easier to dethrone Djokovic from the top spot with better performances.
Murray also beat Djokovic at the ATP World tour Finals. Djokovic confirmed the split saying that his “professional plans are now directed primarily to maintain a good level of play”.
He also talked of how he would “make all future decisions” in this regard.
