A Pokemon GO leak about about a Water Festival event surfaced online, and it might feature certain Water-type Pokemon in the game. According to the post, players will have an increased spawn rate for Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and their evolutions. The leak also said the event will introduce Shiny Pokemon in the game.
According to a Pokemon GO leak, originally posted in Facebook by Hector Cortes, the event will begin today at 1 PM PDT and will end on March 29, 2017, 1 PM PDT. It might also allow trainers to unlock a new new avatar wardrobe item called the Magikarp Hat.
The Pokemon GO leak mentioned that more Water-type Pokemon from Gen 2 will appear more than usual. It even included Lapras, although originally from the Kanto Region, as one that will make an appearance in the event.
According to the post, players can obtain the Magikarp Hat by catching 50 big Magikarp in Pokemon GO. It will not have a time limit, so they can unlock the new wardrobe anytime in the game.
The leak also mentioned that evolving a Shiny Pokemon will still yield a Shiny creature. “Did you know that if you evolve a Shiny Pokémon like this Magikarp, the evolved Pokémon will also be Shiny?” the alleged leak said.
It would mean that Niantic Labs might introduce Shiny Pokemon in the Water Festival event. Having Magikarp and Gyarados as the first Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO makes sense since Game Freak first introduced Shiny Gyarados in the second generation of Pokemon games.
On Reddit, fans are debating the legitimacy of the leak. Some backed the leaker saying he has correctly predicted the upcoming content, such as the Gen 2 update. Also, data miners had previously discovered images of Shiny Pokemon avatars in the game’s files.
Except for its color, shiny Pokemon will not have much effect on the stats of the Pokemon. However, catching is one is truly a feat since players only have 1 in 8192 chance to encounter a Shiny Pokemon.
No Official Annoucements Yet
Niantic Labs has not yet made any official announcements about the possibility of a Water Festival event in Pokemon GO. The company usually announces new features and events a days before it becomes available.
A largely speculated event that did not happen was St. Patrick’s Day. Considering the events previously held for Pokemon GO, Niantic Labs only cater to those celebrated globally.
The Water Festival event is not known by everyone, so there is a slim chance that it will push through. The next Pokemon GO event that everyone is anticipating includes the April Fools event next month. Unlike the Water Festival event, April Fools is known internationally and developers just might decide to hold it for the game.
