Pokemon GO Shinies In Water Festival Event: Everything We Know So Far

Niantic Labs recently announced the Water Festival Event for Pokemon GO and Shiny Pokemon finally made an appearance. Prior to the announcement, someone had leaked the exact details of the event and he included the possibility of Pokemon GO Shinies.

Hours after the announcement of the event, trainers have officially caught a Shiny Magikarp that had a golden color. More than that, others even caught its evolved form, a Shiny Gyarados that had the color red.

Event Leaked Prior the Announcement

Two days before the official announcement, Hector Cortes leaked on Facebook that Niantic Labs would hold a Water Festival event. Cortes posted the exact words that the company used on Pokemon GO Live to tell its players of the event.

Cortes also mentioned another leak about Pokemon GO Shinies. He posted,”Did you know that if you evolve a Shiny Pokémon like this Magikarp, the evolved Pokémon will also be Shiny?”

Cortes did not mention his source for the leak, so some questioned his credibility over at Reddit. Others defended him and said that what he posted had a huge chance of becoming true since he also correctly predicted Gen 2.

The leaker only said the existence of both Shiny Magikarp and Shiny Gyarados and, so far, trainers have only caught the said Pokemon. It is clear that Niantic Labs had included another undocumented change in its update.

More Shiny Pokemon in the Future

Niantic Labs might add more Shiny Pokemon after the Water Festival event since they already included a Shiny Pokedex button in the game. It will reveal the alternative recolored version of the Pokemon, which the game considers rare with an encounter rate of one in 8192.

Aside from the Shiny Pokemon included in the Water Festival event, Niantic Labs included other bonuses as well. Other Water-type Pokemon such as Squirtle, Totodile, and friends will have an increased spawn rate over the duration of the event.

The Pokemon GO Water Festival event started on March 22, 2017 at 1 PM PDT and will end on March 29, 2017 at 1 PM PDT. Aside from Squirtle and Totodile, trainers might also encounter more Lapras and other Pokemon from the Johto region.

Developers also added a new avatar wardrobe item called the Magikarp Hat. Trainers can obtain the Magikarp Hat by catching 50 Giant Magikarp. Since their spawn rates have increased, trainers can easily finish this task especially if they have access to a Magicap nest.
