The Golden Globes Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in the entertainment industry. It has gone under fire for the past few years because of snubs, disagreeable award decisions and some whitewashing issues. This year seems like it would not be any different and Power cast Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent threw the first jabs.
50 Cent lashes out on Golden Globe nomination snub
Curtis Jackson, widely known as 50 Cent, posted some strong interesting words on his Instagram. Jackson was not happy when he found out that his show, Power, did not get nominated for a Golden Globe award. He does recognize that the show was never intended to be a front runner of the network but he said that it is still the highest rated show.
I'm on the move again, Golden globe's can suck a dick. I accept my series POWER was not intended to be a signature show for the network but it is the highest rated show. I know my audience very well, I'm done promoting this out side of contractual obligations. SEASON 4 KANAN MUST DIE, I got other shit to do.
Jackson further posted that he wants his character, Kanan, to die in season 4. On top of that, he said that he is done promoting the show outside contractual obligations. It seems like he really got hurt having failed to get a nomination and wishes to no longer be part of the Power cast. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, his vow to leave the show will greatly impact Power‘s storyline and possibly the ratings.
Soon after the first post, he posted another one with Floyd Mayweather in it. The caption read that Curtis Jackson is “off the Power train” and that Mayweather will be doing the show moving forward. He further posted that people should go to the boxing champ for more information as he has something else to do. According to a report by Deadline, the picture seems to be fake.
A Starz network spokesperson responded to Deadline’s inquiry about Jackson’s post and said that they are grateful for the excellent work done on the show by the Power cast and production team. The spokesperson did agree that the show seemed like it has been overlooked by various awards committees. However, it still is the second most watched show on premium cable this year and it means the same, probably even more, than getting an award nomination.
Golden Globe snubs more shows and artists expected to be on the list
It is not only Starz’s hit show Power who failed to get an expected nomination. Taraji P. Henson who won Best Actress for a TV Drama did not also get a nomination. Even Jeffrey Dean Morgan who just recently won a Critics’ Choice award failed to get one. Award-winning HBO show Silicon Valley was not on the nominated list.
However, Golden Globes still recognized some good works like Westworld, Stranger Things, and La La Land.
