Take-Two finally has more news about its upcoming Wild West game. Red Dead Redemption 2 may have its own robust multiplayer mode. However, players will have more to look forward to in the game’s impending release.
The news came courtesy of an earnings call for Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games. It can be remembered that the latter produced both Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Red Dead Redemption, both stellar games in their own times. CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed a lot of information about the forthcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.
Of course, he did emphasize as always that players ought to wait for actual announcements from Rockstar Games. However, he gave gamers and fans of the series enough to cull their excitement. If what he says comes to fruition, then Red Dead Redemption 2 will be an exciting game for fans.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Multiplayer, GTA Online “Competition”
GameSpot reported on the earnings call for Take-Two, citing Zelnick and a few “reveals” for the game. Perhaps something to pay attention to is the upcoming game’s online mode. This was something speculated by fans, but was now just officially revealed by the company.
Although Zelnick did not reveal much about the online mode, he reassured fans that their marketing teams’ output is something for fans to expect. He even went as far as to tell fans that its multiplayer mode may not even compete with GTA Online‘s.
Zelnick assured that “entertainment properties don’t really compete with other entertainment properties.” He added that avid consumers of a particular brand will be appealed to the brand regardless of the release. Meaning, the success of RDR 2 may be augmented by the popularity of GTA Online.
Sadly, there is not much to be said about the game aside from its impending release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this fall. However, if players should expect Rockstar Games giving the same multiplayer treatment for RDR 2, then it can be expected that the game will have a multitude of downloadable content (DLC). It can be an exciting prospect, as fans will remember GTA 5 having quite the exciting (and sometimes crazy) DLC packs.
According to Games Radar, players should expect a visually-stunning Wild West for the game. This is an entirely new sight for GTA fans, as this is not commonly explored in the modern city-based GTA. There are valleys and beautiful deserts, and if the trailer is any indication, more detailed areas inside them. The game so far involves a gang of outlaws, but aside from that, not much is known about the plot.
Zelnick also shared sales numbers for the previous game in the franchise. He revealed that Red Dead Redemption shipped 8.5 million copies just in its first year. The game shipped a total of 15 million copies all in all.
Unfortunately, he did decline to share numbers for RDR 2. However, he did affirm his excitement for the potential of the game. This is especially the case with its online mode to drive “engagement” for players.
