Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date, Characters & More: What We Know

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally coming! Details on the leaked map, trailer, rumored characters, and locations can be found here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Reveal Trailer

The official reveal trailer showed some of the locations in the game last year. The title is rumored to be set in the Wild West, the exact era in which the events of Red Dead Redemption were set.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is rumored to be a prequel. First, the significant overlap with the region of Blackwater is clearly seen in the game. Furthermore, it is missing a railway in the new map despite other areas in its predecessor having one. This detail suggests that the title will be taking place at an earlier time — a period where rail travel does not exist yet.

Secondly, it is placed further to the East. This makes historical sense, seeing as the Wild West’s frontier would have been less advanced in this time.

Rumored Characters

Meanwhile, certain characters from Red Dead Redemption may return. The group at the end of the trailer could represent John Marston’s gang. Marston is the protagonist in the game. He worked with other cowboys, named Dutch van der Linde, Javier Escuella, and Williamson, in other Red Dead Redemption titles.

In relation to such, Rockstar is known for using old protagonists in various points of their Grand Theft Auto series. Fans may expect at least a cameo of John Marston himself in the second installment of the franchise.

Map Leak

Next, it looks like the characters are back in New Orleans. A new area on the leaked map is called New Bordeaux. 2K, the publisher of RDR 2, also previewed a game which saw New Orleans fictionally reimagined in Mafia 3. This implies that such a rumor involving a New Orleans map seems pretty accurate, according to Eurogamer.

There are lots of places to see. Check out the towns, settlements, gang hideouts, caravan camps, homesteads, landmarks, robbery locations, dams, coves, ranches, cabins and even a prison marked on the map. In addition, the Tall Trees and Great Plains areas also seem set to come back, according to the leak.

The Grizzlies may be an introductory area in the upcoming game. Just like the Armadillo location in Red Dead Redemption, the map seems to point to The Grizzlies in the North. It is rumored to be a tutorial intro zone for the game’s opening sequence.
