Rumors are making rounds that Shameless cancelled the show because of problems in the contract and pay negotiations for the cast and crew.
The show’s 7th season may come to an end in its finale. Recent updates show that Showtime is willing to pay Emmy Rossum the same amount as William H. Macy. But the former is reportedly demanding a higher payment.
Is Shameless cancelled?
According to Variety, Emmy Rossum, who plays the lead character of Fiona Gallagher in Showtime’s Shameless, has been offered the same rate as veteran actor and co-star William H. Macy who plays the role of Frank.
However, Rossum is reportedly unsatisfied with the network’s offer to give her the same rate as Macy. The actress apparently wants to get a higher cut than Macy to make up for the previous seasons where she was paid lower.
This dispute holds up Showtime’s announcement for the show’s upcoming Season 8. The network did not expect Rossum’s camp to demand more than what they were offering.
The network is thus deciding between going on without Rossum or getting Shameless cancelled. Recent developments show otherwise.
Where is Emmy Rossum Now?
However, on December 14, Rossum announced that she will continue playing the role of Fiona Gallagher in Shameless. A trusted television insider also reported that the actress and the show finally resolved the salary dispute.
In addition, on December 15, Rossum refuted the rumors and announced through Twitter that she is happy with her “Shameless Family”. She added that she will be back filming in May.
The last episode of Shameless Season 7 will air on December which implies that working in May is a clue that the network will renew for Season 8. But, there has been no official announcement from Showtime.
Shameless Season 7 finale airs on Sunday, December 18.
