It’s a great day for fans of the Shovel Knight. The game undergoes a number of developments which includes a new name, new content, and new platform. Along with those developments is a price increase.
New Name And Platform
The Nintendo Switch has not been released yet but the games coming with the console are already announced. Fortunately, Shovel Knight will be available for the platform as well as on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC/Mac/Linux. The changes were announced by game developer Yacht Club Games on its blog today.
Yacht Club is adding the subtitle Treasure Trove to the main package. This set will collect Shovel Knight as well as its two expansions, Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment. The Treasure Trove collection will be automatically added for free to those who already own it on PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
According to Polygon, the original Shovel Knight will get a new name. A subtitle is added in order to distinguish it from the two follow-up expansions. It will now be known as Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope.
Other Game Updates
But alongside the rebranding is a price increase for Treasure Trove. However, the developers did not announce the price yet. Said increase will be happening this spring. Hence, the full package can still be purchased at the current price.
“Somewhere along the way, the game has simply gotten too big! It’s difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist,” Yacht Club said explaining its price increase. “We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favorite platform.”
Additionally, its two-player local co-op mode will be available in PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions for free. But it will not be coming to PlayStation 3DS or Vita. Previously, it was only available to the Wii U version for Amiibo owners.
