Smite Game Update: New Celtic Character & Smite Rivals

Hi-Rez has a big surprise for fans of its hit Smite game. Not only do they have a new Celtic god in the mix, they will have a mobile game.

The game devs kick off its 2017 party with new features for its hit game. Not only are they enjoying the first breath of fresh air for the New Year, they are doing it with the bang. Players will soon meet The Morrigan, the first of the new Celtic pantheon.

Hi-Rez is also unveiling its third game in its mythology MOBA franchise. Just what is Smite Rivals?

SMITE Rivals: MOBA Meets Trading Cards

Hi-Rez has just announced Smite Rivals. It’s a fast-paced, free-to-play, TCG for both PC and mobile devices. It’s not released yet, but interested parties can sign up for a beta in the Smite Rivals site.

The game appears to be a TCG and MOBA combined. There are three lanes on both sides, where players use cards to summon heroes and cast spells. The graphics themselves appear cartooney, with the usual Smite elements. Players have to protect their “towers” before their final sanctuary is conquered. It appears to be a top-down version of the typical Smite game. Only this time, you are the strategist.

Smite Game: Enter the Celtic Gods

Meanwhile, a new pantheon is starting to unfold. The Morrigan is the first entry in the Celtic pantheon. She is the manipulative god represented by crows. As a magic user, she has the uncanny ability to use the ultimate of any god in the match. You can view more information on The Morrigan on the Hi-Rez website.

All of these big surprises came around the same time Smite became a global phenomenon. Smite World Champions began as a simple annual affair, and it’s now turned into a fan convention. Teams will be competing for their pantheons’ honor in the tournament. Now its new competitive game, Paladins, also have teams eyeing the $150,000 prize pool.

Its other game, Smite Tactics, is also approaching closed beta.
