Ever since Skyrim Special Edition came out, gamers have wanted to know when the release of the special edition for Elder Scrolls would be. But latest news reveals that The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is no longer happening. It appears that the long wait for Elder Scrolls fans will be left futile.
Oblivion Remaster No More
This is indeed bad news for those who want to see a remake of their favorite game. But since Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that the special edition is no longer happening, there is nothing that gamers can do. Said news was mentioned by Bethesda’s Todd Howard during an interview with Xbox: The Official Magazine via GamesRadar.
Howard clarified that the Skyrim remaster was done while getting ready for Fallout 4 for the current generation of consoles. The Skyrim engine was used to check how it would work on recent consoles. This was an important step before they started working on Fallout.
Why The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Special Edition Is Unlikely
Meanwhile, Bethesda PR vice president Pete Hines revealed that because of all the needed effort and manpower to come up with The Elder Scrolls Oblivion special edition, they prefer not to make it. Instead of a remake, they can “spend all that effort on something new,” GameRant reported. This also means that the studio does not consider making any remasters of older titles.
“Generally speaking, our approach has usually been that instead of spending all this time on a thing we’ve already made, why don’t we instead spend that effort on something new, or on the next version of that thing?” Howard said. His statement manifests that the studio prefers to make a new game than a mere remake. Hence, even if fans are asking for it, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion special edition is nothing but a dream.
