The Last Of Us 2 Release Date News: Here’s Why Joel Might Not Be Included

Naughty Dog released the first game of The Last of Us back in 2013 and it received really great feedback. Now, the game developer has confirmed a The Last of Us 2 sequel to this action-adventure survival horror game. But, the new game may not feature Joel.

Release Date

Naughty Dog has not yet announced the release date for The Last of Us 2. The developer has set the game for a PS4 platform release, and avid fans highly anticipate the arrival of the game.

Why Joel Might Not Be Included In The Game

Neil Druckmann, the director of The Last of Us 2, said during the PlayStation Experience that the game will revolve around hate. Players will also get to control Ellie as the main protagonist of the story. Naughty Dog showed that Ellie is already a grown-up and is a physically stronger person in the trailer.

The fans of the Naughty Dog game became emotionally attached to its main character Joel, whom players got to control in the first game. The players also got attached more with the now grown-up Ellie, who plays an important role in Joel’s life because he treats her as his own daughter. The story in the first part of the game will continue in The Last of Us 2. But, it appears that Joel might not appear in it.

Many speculate that Joel will be dead in this upcoming second title. One line in the trailer shows why Joel might already be dead and long gone in this sequel. In the trailer, Joel asked Ellie, “What are you doing, kiddo? You really gonna go through with this?” Joel used the word “you” instead of “we”. Fans say that because of the strong bond between the characters, Joel would not let Ellie kill an enemy by herself. And the reason why Ellie does this alone may be because Joel would be incapable of helping her. Ellie’s response also hints the same thing with the use of the pronoun “I”. She particularly said that “I’m gonna find and I’m gonna kill every last one of them.”

This sequel of The Last of Us 2 is also expected to gain the success of its first sequel. It is to be recalled that The Last of Us was named the biggest launch of an original game since 2011 just three weeks after day of release. It was also the fastest-selling PS3 game at that time.
