The Thor Ragnarok movie was announced way back 2014. Just recently, it was also announced that Hulk will be getting a “gladiator armor” during the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 earlier this year. This affirms that the storyline would include Planet Hulk.
On a report by Collider, Director Taika Waititi revealed another major piece from the renowned Marvel comics.
Planet Hulk: Sakaar Revealed
In the latest issue of Total Film (via MCU Exchange), Waititi said Sakaar, the name of Planet Hulk, will be featured in the film. “Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters…I was really excited when Kevin [Feige] and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film. What’s really hard is staying authentic.”
In the Thor Ragnarok movie, particularly in Planet Hulk, Bruce Banner’s alter-ego found himself on Sakaar when it was dominated by a corrupt empire led by the Red King. The Red King’s forces captured Hulk and turned him into a gladiator in the Imperial Arena. S.H.I.E.L.D. had planned to shoot Hulk off into space to an uninhabited planet but his ship got sucked into a wormhole. Sakaar is located next to this wormhole in space. This led Hulk to Sakaar.
Its location leads to Sakaar being the home planet to many refugees from other worlds. This also gives its gladiator games a host of various alien lifeforms to fight against each other.
The theory lies that the same event will happen to Mark Ruffalo’s Banner. Furthermore, Total Film drops that Sakaar is the destination where Thor will reunite with Hulk.
Cast of Characters
The Thor Ragnarok movie features a great cast of characters. These include Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, which is supposedly a replacement for the Red King in this scenario, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. They will be joining returning actors Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), and Idris Elba (Heimdall).
The Thor Ragnarok movie would allegedly be like the mid-credits scene from Ant-Man. The latter film was lifted from Captain America: Civil War. Doctor Strange suggests that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as the Sorcerer Supreme in Thor Ragnarok.
Kevin Feige will produce the film together with executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee.
The film will be showing at cinemas on November 3, 2017.
