Fans would think voice actors of video games know their games better than they do. However, this is not the case with Death Stranding. Game creator Hideo Kojima strikes again as it appears even Mads Mikkelsen is confused with the game’s story.
Players who are used to Kojima’s work with Konami and Metal Gear would know the director has a flair for creating rather complex stories. After all, the “tactical espionage” Metal Gear series has a plot involving nanomachines, giant robots, and government conspiracies. Fans may already expect the same treatment with Death Stranding.
The game will be Kojima’s first entry outside the Metal Gear franchise. Death Stranding will also be the debut game of Kojima Productions, the newest brainchild of Kojima himself. However, the cryptic nature of the game’s development has made fans itching for newer updates – and Mads Mikkelsen reveals some of his experiences.
Death Stranding: Mikkelsen and Kojima
This news came courtesy of a panel with Mikkelsen at the Saudi Comic Con in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The surprise “twist” came after he was asked about the game just when he was done talking about future projects. The Danish actor admitted he did not quite comprehend Kojima’s explanation about the game’s plot.
He added that the plot was so elaborate. However, it did motivate him to learn more about what is going on with Kojima’s brand new project. Mikkelsen did not make any attempts to explain the game’s story further.
The Hannibal and Star Wars: Rogue One actor joins The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus and director Guillermo del Toro as some of the game’s stars. Kojima has exclusively invited the three to have parts in his title. Mikkelsen, the latest of the three, added he was concerned about the new motion capture technology he will have to use for the Kojima Productions entry.
Regardless, it is interesting to see that even the game’s actors need to clarify the story with Kojima. After all, if anyone should know the title, it should be the cast. The case with Mikkelsen in itself creates an intriguing dynamic with the director.

Updates on Release
Kojima did reveal a few snippets about the game’s elements in some interviews. For instance, he cited a Kobo Abe book called The Box Man in a discussion. Kojima told Game Informer that the story’s plot is similar to the gaming industry.
Games are like “sticks,” with combat being its main appeal to players. He wants his game to have some “sticks,” but he also wants it to be a “rope.” Kojima said “ropes” can bring people together, which is part of the title’s central theme. Players who want a more concise explanation may not find it with Kojima, who has been relatively secretive and cryptic about his game.
Much as this can be disappointing to fans, it does prove that there is much work to be done with the game. After all, a good title should have a good story. Given that Kojima has a penchant for action titles and stories of acclaimed directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, fans can expect a gripping plot.
The Kojima title has no release date yet. However, the game will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
