The world is a harsh place when gods are at war. This is exactly what Injustice 2 shows in its fierce, new trailer. Mortals and gods are seen at their best as the game expects us to hope for the worst in the title’s story.
Injustice 2 will take players to a trip down speculation alley as tidbits of the game’s story are revealed in a new trailer. However, one thing is for certain: no one is holding back. This is the particular catnip NetherRealm Studios and DC Entertainment are showing its fans.
The game in fact is a bizarre alternate reality set in a universe where Superman has gone haywire. His quest for vengeance had Injustice 2 heroes take sides in his quest for world peace and domination. Which now lets players ask the question: is this really a good choice?
Injustice 2: Shattered Alliances
However, as the new trailer showed, players have to stick with their decisions. The new preview itself showcased not only the fractured relationships between characters. It also showed how devastating these heroes are when provoked.
This is perhaps the best appeal of the Injustice sequel to fans. Heroes and gods can be human, too, and it is not always the best idea. The trailer teases wonderful matches between Batman taking on Superman, and Wonder Woman versus Harley Quinn. These are rivalries that only fans will dream of, but are not entirely implausible. According to Gematsu, this is the reflection of Superman’s desire to have his “Regime” rise to power again.
The trailer also shows interesting interactions with Robin and Supergirl, proteges of both the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel respectively. Sadly, both of them have fractured relationships with their mentors as well. Supergirl is a relatively new character in the game, which makes her allegiance and true motives a bit sketchy.
Robin — in this case, Batman’s son Damian Wayne — seems to hate being in the shadow of Jason Todd, one of the Robins before him. The trailer also confirms the arrival of Cyborg, one of the founding members of the Justice League. However, the game did not confirm his teaser’s arrival date.
New Gameplay, Features
There are no new reveals to the gameplay so far, but there are a few elements teased to fans. Players can expect the same amount of brutality in the game that NetherRealm Studios is known for. Its gritty Mortal Kombat series has achieved critical acclaim because of their realistic and gory finishers.
Injustice and its sequel feature the same brutal moves. However, the sequel also has some form of dynamic gear system. As to what this entails, no one knows yet. But, it does present an option to change into different outfits, with varying additives to gain a combat advantage.
According to Gaming Bolt, the gameplay, in fact, makes some “comic book traditions” available to fans. Some will say that Superman and Batman have been constantly put at odds against each other, being some of the first superheroes ever made. This was even cemented when Mark Millar released The Dark Knight Returns, which made Batman a darker character.
Injustice and its sequel now gave players a chance to reenact these rivalries, along with some other dream matchups, with their versatile combat mechanics. Fans can get the game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16. A mobile version will also come at an unspecified release date.
