Zelda Breath Of The Wild Guide: How to Play It On PC

Nintendo originally released The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch. Days after its launch on the Switch, people managed to get it running on Cemu, a Wii U emulator for PC. Here’s a Zelda Breath of the Wild guide on how to play the game on the PC.

Fans of the game can download the latest version of Cemu over at their official site. Once installed, either dump The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild from the disc or download it via a Wii U USB Helper.

Start Cemu and set the input to Wii U Gamepad and select the preferred keyboard or controller. Finally, load the downloaded Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and play the game.

Cemu Emulator

Cemu developer Exzap first posted on Reddit a footage of them running the game through their PC. Although the game ran, game performance felt unplayable as it only managed a 10-15 frame rates per second.

Exzap used a PC with the following specs: i7-4790K, GTX 780, 8GB RAM. Although it’s powerful enough, the problem was with the software. Cemu is currently on version 1.7.3 and it can barely run The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

Exzap will soon update Cemu to version 1.7.4 which will be able to run The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild smoother compared to before. In their latest footage uploaded on Streamable, the game might have at least ran on 30 frames per second.

In order for Zelda fans to run the latest game on their PC, all they have to do is wait for Exzap to release Cemu version 1.7.4. According to Cemu’s Patreon page, they will release the next updated version for subscribers on April 2, 2017 and April 9, 2017 for the public.

In Cemu version 1.7.3, players might reduce the lag by removing other apps running in the background. It would not completely remove the lag but it might still improve it by a few frames.

Although players might run The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on their PCs with the current Cemu, some features of the game might not work properly. According to Exzap, physics in the game would not work as they normally should.

It will take players longer just to complete the tutorial section of the game if they will play it with version 1.7.3. In the latest Cemu version 1.7.4 video, it revealed that it is finally capable of running it better. Stasis and Magnesis also worked well in the updated version of the software as seen in the video.
